Luke Bryan Biography

Luke Bryan grew up on a peanut farm in Leesburg, Georgia. He helped out on the farm until his early teens when music became his full time passion after getting his first guitar at 14. His talent began to grow as he wrote and played in small local bands and worked with other songwriters in the area. Luke had big plans to head to Nashville after high school and chase the dream, but those plans were put on hold when his brother was killed in a car accident. Not wanting to leave his family, Luke opted to attend Georgia Southern University instead and stay close to home.

While in college Luke continued to write and play locally. He recorded and self-released his first album to sell at shows, but didn't take the dream any further than that until he finished college. At that point he was back to working on his dad's farm, and Luke's dad, believing so much in his talent, told him he had two choices; Chase the dream or get fired.

In 2001 Luke Bryan relocated to Nashville, where he landed a songwriting contract with one of the city's publishing houses. Bryan continued to perform at local clubs, and after an A&R man from Capitol Records saw him perform a set of his original material, he was given a record deal. Capitol released Bryan's first widely distributed album, I'll Stay Me, in the summer of 2007, following it with Doin' My Thing in 2009. Doin' My Thing peaked at number two on the country charts -- and at number six on the Top 200 -- and it spawned two number one singles: "Rain Is a Good Thing" and "Someone Else Calling You Baby" (while "Do I" hit number two). Bryan returned with his third album, Tailgates & Tanlines, in the summer of 2011, its release preceded by the single "Country Girl (Shake It for Me)." That song was the first of four Top Five country singles pulled from the album: "I Don't Want This Night to End" and "Drunk on You" both hit number one, while "Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye" peaked at number three. This success kept Tailgates & Tanlines in the charts well into 2012, and Bryan supported the record with steady touring.
