Trisha Yearwood first moved to Nashville shortly after graduating from Belmont University. It was here that she began working for MTM records as a receptionist and met Big Machine Records president Scott Borchetta, who was working in promotion at the time. She found work on the side singing demos for other songwriters. It was during this time, while singing a demo for songwriter Kent Blazy, that she met Garth Brooks who was still unheard of back then. Through Brooks’ producer, Trisha was introduced to Garth Fundis who would help her achieve her dream. Five years after moving to Nashville, Trisha got signed to MCA records. Her first single “She’s in love with the boy” would top the Billboard charts in 1991. After that Trisha yearwood found record-breaking success through an endless stream of heartfelt ballads such as “How do I Live” with many of her albums reaching platinum status. She has won 3 Grammy’s and is a two-time winner of the Country Music Association’s female vocalist award.
Trisha recently ended her 15 year relationship with MCA to join Scott Borchetta at his newly created Big Machine Records . About her new album “Heartache”, Trisha seems excited to step away from the serious heartstring songs and embrace the high-energy feel of her new material. “I think I was actually a lot more serious in the beginning and finally Garth Fundis said, ‘You have to lighten up a little bit. Everything doesn’t have to be so deep. You can have some fun and nobody’s going to think you’ve lost your artistic integrity.’ I think we’ve had more fun on the later albums because I have lightened up a little bit. I can sing the gut-wrenching stuff, but I can have fun too. I think I’m able to sing some happier songs with sincerity in a way that I never did, not that I wasn’t happy before, just not this level of happy. I can actually put a little more into those kind of songs.”
